Troubleshooting
A device appears in the list but won't hand off
LinkFlick automatically handles the pairing transfer — it unpairs the device from the source Mac and re-pairs it on the destination. If this fails:
- Make sure LinkFlick is open and running on both Macs.
- Make sure the two Macs have trusted each other inside LinkFlick.
- Keep the device within Bluetooth range of the destination Mac (within ~10 metres).
- Try the handoff again — the first attempt occasionally takes a moment for the device to enter pairing mode.
Only Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad are supported. AirPods and other headphones are not.
A device isn't showing up in the list
LinkFlick only shows Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. If a supported device isn't appearing:
- Make sure the device is paired to this Mac (System Settings → Bluetooth).
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
- Try toggling Bluetooth off and back on — this refreshes the device list.
The other Mac isn't appearing in LinkFlick
LinkFlick discovers nearby Macs using Bonjour over your local network. If the other Mac isn't showing up:
- Confirm both Macs are on the same Wi-Fi network or subnet. Separate VLANs, guest networks, and VPNs that isolate traffic will prevent discovery.
- Make sure LinkFlick is running on the other Mac — it won't advertise itself if it's closed.
- Check that Local Network permission is granted for LinkFlick on both Macs (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network).
- Try quitting and relaunching LinkFlick on both Macs to force a fresh Bonjour broadcast.
The device connects but then immediately drops
This usually means the source Mac's Bluetooth stack is still holding onto the device. Try:
- Quit LinkFlick on the source Mac (⌘Q) and reopen it, then try the handoff again.
- If it still drops, toggle Bluetooth off and on on the source Mac, then retry.
Transfer is taking too long or appears stuck
A handoff normally completes in 5–15 seconds. If it's been longer:
- The device may still be in Bluetooth range of the source Mac and reconnecting to it. Move the device physically closer to the destination Mac, or further from the source.
- Bluetooth congestion from many nearby devices can slow the pairing step. Try toggling Bluetooth off and back on on the source Mac to reset its radio state.
- If stuck indefinitely, cancel the transfer, toggle Bluetooth off and on on the destination Mac, and try again.
Bluetooth or Local Network permission is denied
LinkFlick needs two permissions to work. If either was denied during first launch, restore them in System Settings:
- Bluetooth: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth → enable LinkFlick
- Local Network: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → enable LinkFlick
After granting permissions, quit and relaunch LinkFlick for the changes to take effect.
How do I trust another Mac in LinkFlick?
Trusting is a one-time step that lets two Macs exchange devices with each other. Here's how:
- Open LinkFlick on both Macs and make sure they're on the same network.
- The other Mac will appear in your Your Macs list. Click its card.
- Select Trust. The other Mac will show a prompt — accept it there too.
Once trusted, both Macs will remember each other across reboots. You only need to repeat this if you reinstall LinkFlick or reset its data.
LinkFlick doesn't open at login
To have LinkFlick launch automatically when you log in:
- Open LinkFlick.
- Click the gear icon in the top-right of the menu bar window.
- Enable Launch at Login.
If the toggle is on but LinkFlick still doesn't launch, go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and confirm LinkFlick appears in the list and is enabled.
Magic Mouse, Keyboard, or Trackpad won't pair on the destination Mac
In rare cases, macOS holds a stale pairing record that blocks the new connection. To clear it:
- On the destination Mac, open System Settings → Bluetooth.
- If the device appears in the list (even as "Not Connected"), right-click it and choose Forget This Device.
- Return to LinkFlick and initiate the handoff again. The device should pair cleanly without the stale record.
I'm still stuck — what should I do?
Email us at support@linkflick.com and describe what you're seeing. Include the macOS version and the model names of both Macs if you can — it helps a lot.
