Does LinkFlick work with third-party devices (Logitech, Razer, etc.)?

Currently, LinkFlick supports Apple's Magic peripherals only: Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad. This is intentional — these devices enter Bluetooth discovery mode automatically after unpairing, which allows LinkFlick to perform a silent re-pair on the other Mac without PIN codes or confirmation dialogs.

Do I need to sign out of iCloud or use a single Apple ID?

No. LinkFlick works at the Bluetooth and local network level — it has no dependency on iCloud or Apple ID. You can move your Magic Mouse between a personal MacBook and a work Mac Studio on different accounts without any configuration.

How fast is the transfer?

Typically 5–15 seconds. The time depends on how quickly macOS processes the Bluetooth pairing request internally. By the time you turn to face the other screen, your device is usually ready.

Do both Macs need to be on the same network?

Yes. LinkFlick uses Bonjour to discover your Macs on the local subnet — no cloud servers are involved. Wi-Fi and Ethernet both work, as long as both Macs are on the same network.

Do I need to install LinkFlick on every Mac?

Yes. LinkFlick must be running on each Mac you want to transfer devices between. The app runs as a lightweight menu bar extra — it uses almost no resources when idle.

How many Macs can I connect?

On the free trial, you can connect up to 3 Macs (your local Mac plus 2 trusted peers). The Personal plan supports 3 Macs, and the Pro plan supports up to 5 Macs.

Is it safe? What permissions does it need?

LinkFlick requires Bluetooth access (to repair devices) and Local Network access (to discover other Macs via Bonjour). It does not need administrator privileges, does not read keyboard input, and all communication stays within your home or office network — nothing is sent to the cloud.

What happens if a Mac is off or asleep?

If the destination Mac is unavailable, your devices stay connected to the current Mac. As soon as the other Mac wakes and LinkFlick reconnects, it reappears in the Flick List — ready for the next transfer.

Work Mac and Personal Mac at the Same Desk

A company-managed MacBook on the left, your personal Mac on the right. Same desk, same keyboard, same mouse — but two completely separate Apple accounts. This is the setup where Apple's own tools fall short, and where LinkFlick is specifically built to help.

Why Universal Control won't work here

Apple's Universal Control requires both Macs to be signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud, Bluetooth, and Handoff enabled. When your work Mac is managed by your company's IT department — its own Apple Business Manager account, its own MDM profile — Universal Control simply won't connect to your personal Mac.

This rules out Universal Control for the most common two-Mac-at-one-desk scenario in existence.

How LinkFlick handles it

LinkFlick doesn't use iCloud at all. It discovers Macs using Bonjour, a local network protocol, and transfers devices using Bluetooth — no Apple ID involved. Your work Mac and personal Mac are just two nodes on the same Wi-Fi network, and LinkFlick moves your peripherals between them in about 10 seconds.

Privacy and security

A common concern: does LinkFlick read anything between the two Macs? No. LinkFlick transfers Bluetooth pairing credentials for your peripheral — it does not relay input (keystrokes, mouse movement) between Macs and it does not transfer any files or data. All communication stays within your local network. Nothing goes to the cloud.

Corporate IT teams occasionally ask whether an app that needs Local Network and Bluetooth permissions is a risk. LinkFlick uses Local Network for device discovery (Bonjour) and Bluetooth for device handover — both are scoped, visible, and auditable permissions in macOS. The app is notarized by Apple and available for download at linkflick.com.

Setup

Install LinkFlick on both Macs. Your work Mac and personal Mac both need the app installed and running.
Connect to the same network. Both Macs need to be on the same Wi-Fi or subnet. A typical home or small office network works without any configuration.
Trust (one-time). Open LinkFlick on both Macs, find the other Mac in Your Macs, click Trust, accept on the other side. Both Macs remember each other from then on.
Move your peripherals. Click any device in the list, select which Mac to send it to, confirm. Done in ~10 seconds.

Typical workflow

Start the morning on your personal Mac. When you need to focus on work, tap your Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse to the work MacBook — they transfer together in one go. When the work day ends, tap them back. No Bluetooth menus, no power-cycling, no 3-minute setup ritual.
